If you are not acquainted with Anita Blake you should be! Let me pique your interest. She has been one of my “guilty pleasures” since my teen years and beyond. Laurell K. Hamilton uses her heroine Anita Blake to take on some of my favorite things….sex, violence, and the supernatural. Hamilton’s Anita Blake series is a popular urban fantasy book series that follows the story of Anita Blake, a petite ravened haired beauty with supernatural powers as she navigates a world where vampires, werewolves, and other supernatural beings exist alongside humans.

The Anita Blake series began in 1993 with “Guilty Pleasures,” the first book in the series. Since then, Hamilton has written over 25 books in the series, with more planned for the future. The series is set in St. Louis, Missouri, and centers around Anita Blake, a young woman who works as a necromancer, raising the dead for a living. However, Anita’s life takes a dark turn when she becomes involved with the vampire community in St. Louis. As she becomes more deeply involved with vampires and other supernatural creatures, she finds herself pulled into a world of danger, intrigue, and violence.

Anita is a strong, complex protagonist who struggles with the demands of her job and her relationships with the supernatural beings she encounters. She is fiercely independent and refuses to be dominated by anyone, but also has a vulnerable side that she tries to keep hidden.

Hamilton has created a complex world full of supernatural creatures, each with their own unique abilities and weaknesses. The world is full of various factions vying for power and control. Hamilton’s attention to detail in creating this world is evident in the many books she has written in the series, each of which adds to the overall complexity of the world she has created.

The Anita Blake series is not for the faint of heart, with graphic violence, sexual content, and strong language throughout. These elements are integral to the story and help to create a sense of danger and urgency that keeps readers engaged and on the edge of their seats.

Laurell K. Hamilton’s Anita Blake series is a gripping and complex series that has captivated readers for over two decades. Its well-developed characters, intricate world-building, and dark, gritty tone, make the series a must-read for fans of the genre.
