Jason DeFord, known professionally by his stage name JellyRoll is known for his collaborations with Lil Wyte, Haystak, Struggle Jennings, Tech N9ne, and Ryan Upchurch among others.

JellyRoll has released tons of mixtapes including the Gamblin’ on a Whiteboy series and the Therapeutic Music series. Which all are amazing albums! His first Studio album The Big Sal Story was released on October 26, 2012. He has 2 albums with Haystak, 2 Albums with Lil Wyte, and my favorite series Waylon & Willie 1- 4 with Outlaw Country Legend Waylon Jennings Grandson Struggle Jennings.
I met Jelly in 2006 when I went to a Haystak show I bought his Mixtape Gambling on The White Boy Vol . 2 from him. He now is one of my favorite artists and my daughter even loves his music. Jelly has come so far since that show in 2006. He grew up in Nashville, Tennessee, in the southside community of Antioch. In and out of juvenile and jail. That’s where he saw The Music City Miracle happen with the Titans from a Juvenile Detention Center near the stadium as stated on the podcast Just Being Ernest.

What turned this around for Jelly is when he started working with Jingle Jared and helped Jelly come into the world of singing and the more country sound he has today which I’m all for because Jelly can truly sing very well. Over his career, he has a wide range of music, but his most recent album Self Medicated is by far my favorite album by him, which includes one of his best songs ‘Save Me’, which has 52 Million views on YouTube at the time of this article. He has definitely help transcend the business and the indie artist. One of the pioneers of Independent Artist making it big without a record label. He’s definitely helping the landscape change with how record labels do business because they’re seeing how artists are doing it without them. so much so their giving artist better deals than ever and it’s about time the industry giants quit taking so much from the artist.

Something very big happened recently Jelly Roll booked the Mother Church of Music The Ryman in Nashville TN being the third rap artist to ever play the iconic venue. Then selling it out in less than an hour and I was lucky enough to get 2 tickets to this game-changing event. All I can say is September can’t come soon enough. This is truly huge for the independent artist! Jelly truly has come from The Bottom to The Mother Church of Music. I am so excited to see where things go and the music Jelly puts out. I would like to send a huge Congratulations to Jelly on his career and extend an invitation for him to join me on JimJamHere someday.
