Reboot of Mortal Kombat Finishes Production

Writer Greg Ruso recently announced on social media that the reboot of Mortal Kombat has officially completed production.  However, it is far from being complete, as Warner Brothers announced it would not hit theaters till January 15, 2021. Few details have been released about the movie and we may be a while before we start seeing trailers.  People are hopeful since James Wan along with Todd Gardner are producers, but it is Simon McQuoide’s feature debut.

Greg Russo took to social medial with the following,

“Congrats to the amazing cast and crew of #MK2021 on the wrap today! Thank you for being so awesome to work with. The passion and dedication I felt was insane. Hope you get some much needed rest over the holidays!”

He was not the only one, Lewis Tan posted wrap pictures and videos on Instagram with a long statement.

“Picture wrap on Mortal Kombat? This will take awhile to process before I can put the feelings into words accurately, for now I’m depleted, physically and emotionally, I’m delighted and exhilarated, that is how it should feel at the end, give everything for the art. Risk it all. We made something truly special here. I’m proud. The filmmakers and crew were top of their class and beyond professional. Australia delivered unique and breathtaking landscapes. The cast have created a family and bond that will last forever. Thank you @simonmcquoid for your trust and guidance, you are the embodiment of a leader…”

Although we have not learned about the plot, some pictures and short videos have been released from the crew.  Josh Lawson who will be playing Kano, released videos of him practicing wielding a digger knife. Lewis Tan who may be Cole Turner, could be seen practicing boxing moves. New actress, Sisi Stringer (Mileena) showed off some of her skills as well. Other actors in the film include Joe Taslim (Sub-Zero), Hiroyuki Sanada (Scorpion), Chin Han (Shang Tsung, Ludi Lin (Liu Kang), Jessica McNamee (Sonya Blade), Tadanobu Asano (Raiden) and Mehcad Brooks (Jax). One thing we can take away from the cast line up, is they may be staying true to the video game as far as most of the characters.

Guess we will have to wait before we see trailers to get a real feel for what the reboot of Mortal Kombat will look like.
