The Real Ghostbusters are Coming Back

There are few feelings in this world stronger than nostalgia and, for me, you can’t get much more nostalgic than Ghostbusters I loved the movies and the cartoon series when I was a kid. I had the proton pack, the action figures, the ghost trap, the sheets, all of it. I fucking loved Ghostbusters. A couple of years ago when the reboot came around I got excited and, like most people who are honest, was pretty let down. I wanted to see the remaining original cast in more than shitty forced cameos. I wanted the wit and humor of the originals. In short, I wanted Ghostbusters and got something else. The only thing that reboot did besides disappoint me was make me want a proper Ghostbusters movie even more.

That is why I have been so excited since I saw the teaser for the as of yet untitled Ghostbusters project earlier today.  When I saw that glimpse of the original Ecto-1 I felt like a kid again for a moment. I had to get my excitement under control long enough to do some Google-Fu. I wasn’t about to get tricked again. Still, I didn’t think I could be more excited but I was wrong.

First off, Jason Reitman is directing the project and co-wrote the screenplay. If you don’t recognize the name, he directed Juno and Thank You for Smoking both of which I absolutely loved. Furthermore he is the son of Ivan Reitman, the director behind the 1984 Ghostbusters. In an article I read he refers to himself as the first Ghostbusters fan, saying that he fell in love with the original film while visiting the set. The film, set to release in 2020, is not a reboot it is a continuation of the original franchise set in the present according to Reitman

That alone was enough to push my excitement up to 10 but when I saw that Dan Akroyd and Ernie Hudson retweeted the trailer it was cranked up to 11. Not gonna lie, I might have got a little misty-eyed. I might have even gotten a little choked up trying to talk about it. Hell, I might be a little emotional writing this.  No word yet if Bill Murray will be involved but we can only hope. Even still, the confirmation that two of the three living original stars will be involved is enough for me.

Everyone involved is being very tight lipped about the story but I still have high hopes. If you haven’t yet, go check out the teaser trailer. Stay tuned, I will be watching this one closely for updates.
