Call Girl of Cthulhu follows Carter Wilcox, the virgin artist, as he falls in love with a call girl and must immerse himself in the world of strange cults and eldritch horrors in order to save her from the cult’s sinister plot to bring about the end of humanity. One thing is for sure, Carter’s life will never be the same.

I’m going to be honest; I’m not the best source of information when it comes to the works of Lovecraft. I do, however, find it really interesting. Any creature that sleeps for a couple thousand years and wakes up only to devour humans and break their minds has my vote any old day of the week. When you inject that mythos with some humor and likeable characters, I’m definitely on board.

To me, the title of this film sets up some expectations. I went in expecting tentacles, blood,  body horror, and well.. call girls in various states of undress. It delivered all that and more. The practical effects are solid, the acting is good, and the characters are likeable. To top it all off, the movie is fucking hilarious. With my limited knowledge of the source material, I wouldn’t think that Lovecraft’s Great Old Ones traveling through portals to bring about human extinction would translate well to comedy. I was so wrong.

I have the Blu Ray DVD combo pack from Alternative Cinema and it’s loaded with special features. There is behind the scenes footage, and commentary from the producer as well as a commentary track with the cast. Like other releases that I’ve gotten from them, there is a trailer vault included in the special features as well and it is plumb full of trailers for movies that have made my “must watch” list.

All in all, would I recommend this title? Shit yeah I would! If you’re into campy indie horror comedy with a little sex, a bunch of slime, and some dark gods from the deep, I highly suggest you check this out. Go order yours today and get in on these Lovecraftian hijinks.
