Ugly Sweater Party is a heartwarming holiday tale of two friends who travel to a remote camp to try to hook up with a couple of dumpster slut twins. Things go awry when one of the pals decides to lift an ugly sweater from a dead drifter. The sweater contains the evil spirit of a satanic serial killer and it needs blood to gain strength and attain its final form. Needless to say, nobody gets laid but there is definitely some fuckery afoot.
Normally, I wouldn’t even watch something with Christmas themes this early in the year let alone review it. When I saw the trailer for this movie, though, I knew I had to check it out and I didn’t want to wait until next week. This movie has everything you could ever want in a horror comedy! There’s some cool practical effects, some super cheesy CG, over-the-top characters, some good laughs, and buckets of blood. Throw in enough cheese for everyone to have nachos for a week and you’ve got yourself one hell of a time!
Ugly Sweater Party isn’t just camp and blood; there’s plenty of other things to enjoy. There are some spot on performances by a great cast; Sean Whalen (People Under the Stairs, Death House) plays a great serial killer, Felissa Rose is perfect as the undersexed and super horny wife of head counselor Mandix, and Lara Jean slays as psychic badass Hanna. The writing is solid; you get an interesting story and some quotable lines. Seriously, the plot in this movie just keeps getting crazier and crazier as it goes along. The soundtrack to this movie is incredible as well. The theme song is still stuck in my fucking head. There is also some Slayer-esque metal thrown in for good measure.
All in all, would I recommend this movie? Fuck yeah I would! Good writing, a great cast, some solid direction, and visuals that are at the same time as good and as bad as they need to be make this Ugly Sweater Party a perfect addition to any holiday horror watch list. It will be available exclusively on Amazon Instant Video starting November 23rd. That’s right! This holiday hootenanny comes out on Black Friday; just in time for you to sleep off your Thanksgiving bender and get ready for the best ugly sweater party you’ll attend this year.
