Terrifier tells the story of Tara and Dawn, a couple of twenty-somethings out having a good time on Halloween. Their night of drunken debauchery takes a turn for the worst when they encounter Art the Clown.  I don’t know if it was the alcohol, the fact that it was Halloween, or sheer stupidity that made Dawn want to draw his attention to them instead of getting the hell out of Dodge but it turns out to be a pretty big mistake. Art opens his bag of tricks and unleashes his own brand of Halloween fun on Tara, Dawn, and everyone else he can get his blood stained hands on.
Terrifierfeels like a love letter to eighties slasher flicks; it may be set in the present day but it still feels like an old school bloodbath.  This movie delivers everything you could want from a throwback murderfest. You’ve got great practical effects, creative kills, a quick paced plot, one of the best antagonists to be introduced in decades, and some pretty damned solid acting all around.
Let’s just take a few minutes to talk about Art the Clown. Imagine if you took the unstoppable bloodlust of Jason Voorhees, the humor of Freddy Krueger, the sadism of a cenobite, and the silence of Michael Myers, and a few secret ingredients, put them all in a blender, pulsed for a few minutes, and poured the whole mix into the creepiest goddamned clown in cinematic history.  I think that’s the best way to describe Art the Clown.  My favorite thing about him is that you can tell that he’s having a great time. Instead of being a super serious stone-faced killer, he has fun with his victims. He mimes, he rides tiny bikes, and he does his best to crush the spirits of his victims before dispatching them in some pretty creative ways. Art the Clown was created by director Damien Leone and brought flawlessly to life by David Howard Thornton; I firmly believe that they have created the next horror icon.
That’s really all I can say about Terrifier without giving too much away. If you’re a fan of old school horror or just enjoy some creative gore and good story telling, you’ll want to check this one out. It’s available on a ton of VOD outlets and is 100% worth the price you’ll pay to watch it. Seriously, go check out Terrifier and find out what all the buzz is about!
